Under Pressure – Torso (6)

9. Conception Meridian Point 3 (CO-3)

On the anterior midline, 4 finger-widths below the umbilicus.

This is close to the region known as the ‘tantien’ (dantien) used widely in the Chinese martial arts. Therefore, in Dim Mak it is regarded as a chi disruptor and is one of the few points avoided in acupuncture practice, as it causes damage [said to shorten lifespan] rather than having health benefits.

Strikes to the abdomen area are usually made directly in or upwards, but this can be negated by building up the abdominal muscles (six-pack). Striking down can be more effective, as this region cannot be strengthened so easily. Apparently, this downward strike can release bowels and bladder as well as introduce a lot of pain. It is a claimed fight-stopper by some martial artists and self-protection instructors.

In Dim Mak, an upward strike here is said to increase blood pressure dangerously.

10. Gall Bladder Point 25 (GB 25)

Located on the lateral sides of the abdomen, on the lower border of the free end of the twelfth rib.

This is in the area of the kidneys. This point in particular will cause great kidney damage when struck from the side, more so than when the kidneys are struck from the lower back area. (traditional kidney strike). From the side, the strike sets up a shock wave which damages the kidneys. Struck hard it will supposedly cause death through kidney failure; light to moderate strikes will cause bleeding from the urinary system and great pain in the kidney area. This strike seems to have a delayed effect; there are online videos that show this area being struck, and it is often around 5 seconds later that the recipient of the strike collapses. (Regrettably, some of these videos are pranks.)

It is strange that in traditional Chinese medicine, the kidney meridian doesn’t actually seem to pass over the kidney region, as its points are up the front of the body.

In Dim Mak, the ‘kidney strike’ is also stated as bladder point 23 (BL 23), which is close by to GB 25.
