Under Pressure – Torso (5)

8. Liver Meridian point 14 (LV-14)

On the mammillary line, two ribs below the nipple, in the sixth intercostal space.

Martial arts practitioners heavily utilise this point due to its effectiveness and relative ease of access. It can cause heart problems, such as cardiac arrest. Additionally, it can lead to lung collapse. In Dim Mak, it is said to cause energy drainage.

I was hit at this point during a tackle while playing 5-a-side football. An opposition team member flailed his arm and hit me in that area, which caused immediate pain and a brief interruption to my breathing. The pain and effects were over in about 10 seconds, but it was a real stopper from a strike with no real power behind it.

9. Liver Meridian point 13 (LV-13)

This point is located below the free end of the eleventh floating rib, located in the region of the free ribs, approximately one inch above the navel and six inches either side of the midline.

Great physical damage is done here, so this is one of the more dangerous points. The spleen is easily ruptured with this strike on one side, and on the other, the Liver is also immediately affected.

This is the so-called ‘Liver Shot’ in boxing. Numerous videos on YouTube and other platforms show this point being struck in boxing and kickboxing, where the recipient immediately drops to their knees and is unable to continue fighting.

10. Small Intestine point 15 (SI-15)

This point is located on the inner side of the shoulder blade, two inches away from the spinal column and two inches lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra.

Remember, this is looking from the back.

In Dim Mak, it is claimed that severe Chi drainage from the upper body will result, causing a knockout if the strike is quite hard. Nerve damage can occur, as it is quite close to the backbone at the neck. Nausea will also result. Being hit here has been described as being like having the ‘bottom drop out of you’.
