Under Pressure – Arms (7)

11. Large Intestine Meridian Point 13 (LI-13)

The position is roughly three inches above the elbow and slightly inward.

This point is more of a nerve point strike, which inflicts pain and nervous shock. The pain can increase rapidly until the recipient has to give up due to it. A typical application is to punch at this point to ‘disable’ the arm whilst the attacker’s arm is punching – attack the attack.

12. Heart Meridian Point 2 (H-2)

Inner upper arm, in the groove medial to the biceps brachii muscle.

In Dim Mak, this point will slow the heart rate sufficiently to make one feel ill. This point is also an excellent nerve point strike, affecting the whole arm and sending a shock wave into the upper body. Dim Mak suggests a knockout can be made using this point. As in LI-13, above, the strike can be a punch to the arm whilst it is punching.

A future post will cover the physiological implications of striking muscles.

13. Lung Meridian Point 5 (LU-5)

This point is located at the cubital crease, on the radial side of the tendon of the biceps brachii. The point is best located with the elbow slightly flexed.

This point can cause damage to the whole system. It can supposedly cause a knockout when struck with a ‘dead arm’. This technique is where the arm is totally loose with no tension at all and is dropped on the target, making use of the heaviness of the arm itself, along with the mind’s intention that it weighs ‘a thousand pounds’.

It can be used as a set-up point, or it can be used all by itself as a strike. In Dim Mak, the whole upper body is put out of balance, both physically and chi-wise, as it will take chi away from the lungs. In addition, because the lungs are part of the body’s power system, you can lose power. Many applications that use this point resemble a downward block.

I sometimes demonstrate this point by pressing and vibrating my thumb into the point when the opponent’s hand is making a grab, but it is hard to achieve the desired effect. The effect is usually pain caused by pressing the musculocutaneous nerve. Only once has a person reacted by uncontrolably shouting out an expletive.

14. Pericardium Meridian Point 6 (PC-6)

The point is on the inner forearm, approx. 3 finger widths above the wrist crease between the tendons of the long palmar muscle and the radial flexor muscle of the wrist.

This location is one of the best set-up points and is used a great deal in dim mak but also for healing. When struck, it can upset the yin/yang balance in the body, causing confusion internally.

It can be incorporated into wrist locks using the fingers to dig into the point, making the lock much easier, firstly, to get on and, secondly, to hold. A strike straight in can cause nausea.

In Dim Mak, a set-up point is a pressure point that is struck first in order to make a subsequent target point more vulnerable, sensitive, or effective. One of the points to follow PC-6 is LV-14, the location I showed in an earlier post.
